Born to Shop London: The Bargain Hunter's Guide to Name-Brand and Designer Shopping
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (June, 1994)
Author: Suzy Gershman
Average review score:

Born to Shop--London
London was our 5th trip with Suzy: as usual she directed us to all the right places and with her usual wit and flair, to boot. You know you have a great source when the husband of the group (who has to carry everything) says that the only guide book for the day will be by Suzy.

Suzy Gershman captures the London shopping scene in one book
The book has been and continues to be an excellent resource for shopping needs. London can be overwhelming -- after all it is the city of shopkeepers -- but following the recommendations in the book have proven successful everytime. I have sent a copy to each of my guests planning to visit London and all have been able to highlight areas of shopping to save time and get what they want. The helpful tips, shortcuts and general information about the markets is fabulous. If planning a trip to London and shopping is on your list of things to do -- don't be caught without the ulitimate shopping guide.

Don't leave home without it!
This book alone is worth a ticket to London. Whether you're a power shopper or just want to pick up a few souvenirs, Suzy Gershman has insider secrets for the perfect item at the perfect shop. And she's great fun to read (even if you're not ready to plan a trip yet.) I've used her books in 3 countries, and she's never steered me wrong. In this edition: don't miss Jo Malone, Lush, and tea at Stafford's.

Boulangerie: A Pocket Guide to Paris's Famous Bakeries
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (June, 1999)
Authors: Jack Armstrong and Delores Wilson
Average review score:

Nothin' like 'em 'round here.
I never knew how grand the bakeries of Paris where until I read Boulangerie! I wish we had a similar tradition in my home town. I love bread and soup above all other foods! Some day, when I visit Paris, I'll search the city with a copy of this pocket guide in my hand.
I also enjoyed the pictures of the boulangeries of Paris on the authors Web site: Dorseybooks.com

A TIME MANAGEMENT NECESSITY
Let's face it, whether you are visiting Paris for the first or the fifth time, there never seems to be enough time to squeeze everything in. Everyone should take at least one evening or one afternoon for a 3-star dinner or lunch; but, when you are busily going from sight to sight, who has that kind of time? This book is perfect for letting you find bakeries with a wonderful range of foods you can carry away with you. I found that the descriptions of each bakery carried their specialities and any unusual items they carried. The first time you find a conveniently located establishment when you are trying to get from point A to point B, you will know what a treasure it is. The size makes it very convenient to take with you as well.

An Essential Pre-Paris-Trip Book
This book is a jewel. It made our first Paris trip that much more special by introducing us to some exceptionally fine bakeries. This pocket-sized book not only gives you a listing of the fine Boulangeries (organized by arrondisements, includes the address & phone number, closest metro or bus stop, when they are open, and what's special about each) but tells you where to go (nearby picnic spots) and eat the bread and goodies that you buy at these Boulangeries -- this is what truly made the book special. We tried "Robineau" in the 7th and "Gerard Beufort" in the 5th as listed in this book and we were not disappointed. Both had wonderful baked goods, the former within a short walk to the Champ de Mars and Eiffel, and the latter, a 3-minute walk away from Arenes de Lutece, the ancient Roman amphitheater which is a perfect picnic spot. You could use this book to plan your breakfasts and picnic lunches as a nice balance to the Bistro-dining in Paris.

Excellent and Practical
We used this textbook in our MBA level Business Law course. This book is an excellent resource for understanding business law from a corporate finance angle. The book is well organized and very useful as reference to any corporate manager or executive. I highly recommend it.

Law made interesting!
I had to purchase this text for a class...it is phenominal! I actually like reading all the cases and examples that bring the law back down to earth. It isn't hard to complete reading assignments and actually understand what you should be retaining as concepts.

Creating and Consuming Web Services in Visual Basic
Published in Paperback by Addison Wesley (22 May, 2002)
Authors: Scott Seely, Deon Schaffer, and Eric A. Smith
Average review score:

Excellent on-ramp for VB devs to move to .NET
If you are a seasoned Visual Basic developer with no familiarity with .NET, C#, or Web services, this book will get you where you need to go with a minimum of theoretical explanations and examples that are straightforward and to the point. It provides a quick overview of key concepts and then plunges into practical instruction that brings VB 6 experts up to the latest rev. You don't have to learn a new language to take advantage of .NET services. I work with Deon and have worked with Eric, and they not only have the understanding but the technical chops to back up what they are saying here. Buy the book, don't wait for the movie.

Web Services for VB Folks--it's about time!
If you are like me, you may have thought that the only good Web service support for ASP.NET was offered through C#. The three guys who wrote this book show that this just isn't true.

The book doesn't spend too much time on the protocols-- instead it explains how to use them from VB. If you need to understand the SOAP and WSDL real deeply, get a different book like Seely's SOAP book from PH-PTR. This book is about writing Web services, nothing more or less. The chapter on SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI is nothing other than an overview. Hey, you've been warned.

Great coverage for VB.NET devs
I just got this book and more or less tore through it. The book does a great job explaining the ins and outs of creating Web services with VB.NET. I especially appreciated the great coverage of using attributes to shape the WSDL and data used in the Web service. The book really helped me out a lot. Highly recommended.

Desktop Hosting: A Developer's Guide to Unattended Communications with CDROM
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (15 June, 2002)
Author: Bill James
Average review score:

Excellent reading for the latest web strategies
This book was a good read for me. The author makes some good points on how the nature of desktop hosting can shape how the web can and should be utilized for unattended communication. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants good techinical information on desktop hosting as well as business owners who want to leverage more of the web for e-business.

Security Made Easy
In this time of heightened security concerns, this technology provides key capabilities. By allowing secure access to existing information without the need to create elaborate Web interfaces, desktop hosting makes better security attainable for every business. The full working version of the software helped me get up and running, and this book guided me through the process with ease.

Learn What Technology Can Really Do
A great tech/business crossover book. Provides specifics on how the technology described can help your business save time and money by automating responses to customers. James has really developed an important technology that can have a positive impact on many businesses if they chose to apply it.

Digital Aboriginal: The Direction of Business Now: Instinctive, Nomadic, and Ever-Changing
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (May, 2002)
Authors: Mikela Tarlow and Philip Tarlow
Average review score:

A must read for any serious business person.
This book is about business and how it is evolving faster than the speed of light. This book will help enlighten you on how and why you must consider technology as the way to enhance and grow your business from the inside out. Your customers expect it, your prospects expect it and your employees will too.

Technology can pave the way to a future you may not have envisioned yet. Hold on to your hats - it's going to be an exciting ride! This book will help you be a part of the POSITIVE side of the inevitable.

An incredible journey!
I love this book! Few business books have ever inspired me to buy multiple copies for friends and colleagues but none has ever kept me up at night like this amazing work.

Drawing on the metaphor of Australian nomad culture, the Tarlows weave a web ranging from the implications of intellectual property practices on ALL businesses to the value of co-designing experience and storytelling over passive media. The final chapters on idea communities, social genius, trust and tribalmind are both mind-blowing and hopeful.

Perhaps what I enjoy the most about this book is the tension between future vision and present practicality. In many ways, Digital Aboriginal suggests a way to navigate the future using imagination, ethics and a heightened sense of participation in the world.

I cannot recommend this work highly enough!

Who Owns the Wind?
Mikela and Philip Tarlow invite the reader to deliberate this question by sharing their wisdom and knowledge about the Aboriginal belief in the connectivity of relationships. As a reader, an observer of the story, you will travel through time both past and future, chapter by chapter, experiencing the opportunity to dream about the possibilities of a new business design where ownership ideas are replaced with a regard for creativity and innovation. You are brought to an intersection in time where ideas create a place of order and rules are forever rewritten. You will not be able to resist being part of an evolution of both spirit and thought.

Technology Kit for e-business generalists
Here is a book that can help e-business generalists understand the techies - it goes through all major areas on a level that is challenging, but not overly technical.

Good guide for start-ups
This book explains with real world examples, all the technical aspects of Ebusiness such as catalogues, security and payments. It also guides through the overlooked areas of integration such as legacy systems and supply chain automation.Although the chapter on Trust and Security could have been more expanded.Anyone wishes to setup an online ebusiness store should read this book to avoid the basic pitfall.

e-Business issues pertaining to DBAs - Finally !!
This book is an excellent source of information for Oracle DBAs that work in an e-Business environment. I have read a number of books on e-Business and Oracle but this book does a superb job in showing what e-Business means to an Oracle DBA like me.
I especially liked the chapters on availability and security. Each page in those chapters contains very good stuff. In my company, high availability and security is a must and the techniques shown in the book are a lifesaver. e.g. encryption techniques, implementing redundancy, security loop holes and so on.

Packed with useful information
I have been an Oracle DBA for over 10 years now and am in the process of transitioning from a "traditional" DBA to an "internet" DBA. This book has helped me enormously in understanding the various issues and solutions related to using Oracle with the Web. Each chapter of the book is packed with valuable information. The author does a great job in explaining the issues involved in such projects and also provides real-world tips and techniques for achieving availability, scalability, security and performance in e-Businesses using Oracle. E-Commerce Logistics & Fulfillment: Delivering the Goods

Author: Deborah L. Bayles
Average review score:

Good Ship Happens! :-)
An excellent book if you want to sell anything online; full of very practical and easy to implement advice for running an efficient back office. I learned how to successfully navigate shipping procedures, avoid internet fraud, process payments, manage customer service and complex tax nexus issues. The book is very complete and well organized - a must read for anyone doing business online! - Jason Hartman

Excellent Guide for Ebiz & Ecommerce
Excellent guide, especially for those implementing e-catalogs. Very good for The chapters are direct, loaded with questions and checklists.

Book that is long overdue
This is a topic that is long overdue. One only need look at the headlines of how some e-merchants badly fouled up fulfillment this holiday and the prior one to realize how invaluable this book is for e-commerce. Especially useful are the checklists, work-sheets and the exensive research Ms. Bayles did in finding pertinent sites that have a bearing on the topic. This is a book that, in contrast to others on e-commerce, will never go out of date.

e-Mergers: Merging, Acquiring and Partnering e-Commerce Businesses
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (13 August, 2001)
Authors: James Edward Keogh and Jim Keogh
Average review score:

Don't sell your company until you read this book
I run one of those few start ups that has survivied. I've had several offers from competitors in the brick and motar world to buy my business. Some offers were very interesting and others I've since learned were less than honest. Keogh's book helps me identify good candidates for purchasing my company and shows me serious pitfalls to avoid. This is a good little book that explains all the ins and outs about e-mergers and buying and selling a company. I highly recommend this book.

Avoid costly mistakes by reading this book
I owned one of those start up dot coms that found a niche in the market and actually made a profiting when funding dried up. I had offers from a number of established traditional companies to take over my business. Fortunately, I stumbled over this book in time to avoid making potentially costly mistakes. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of selling their e-business to read this book before looking for buyers. You'll avoid a lot of pitfalls.

A must for anyone thinking about selling or buying a dot com
Ken Allard of Jupiter Media Metrix is correct when he says this book is a comprehensive guide to M&A for anyone who wants to acquire cheap assets and build a winner from the rubble. Keogh walks you through all the fine details of buying and selling a dot com. I found particularly interesting the coverage of real world experiences of those who have worked through their own deals. It's as if you're getting the how to's and what worked what to avoid all in one very readable book. Good job.
